Bonatua Admits He’s Been Investigating Gibran’s Diploma Since 2022

The Indonesian National Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim) questioned independent researcher Bonatua Silalahi as a witness on Thursday (11/5/2026) in a case concerning the alleged invalidity of Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s diploma. Bonatua admitted he’s been looking into Gibran’s educational documents since 2022. The questioning lasted about six hours, from 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM Western Indonesia Time. Bonatua said the investigators asked him a bunch of questions about how his research went, and he brought along empirical research data that he can stand by. Bonatua gave props to the investigators for already having the same info as his research data, so they didn’t need to do a lot of double-checking.
