Batu City Holds First International Children's Film Festival, Attended by 23 Countries
The Batu City Government, through its Tourism Office, officially opened the Batu International Kids Film Festival (BIKFF) at the Batu City Museum and Gallery on Wednesday (April 29th). This first international-scale children's film festival in the city aims to boost the development of the creative economy, especially the film sub-sector, targeting children of elementary to junior high school age. According to the Head of the Tourism Office, Onny Ardianto, the festival runs for three days until Friday (May 1st), with the peak award night at Selecta Recreation Park.
The festival received about 200 film works from 23 countries, including Sweden, the Czech Republic, and Kazakhstan, with around 30 films passing curation to be screened. The festival's quality is strengthened by a jury board from various regions and countries, including two judges from Australia. Festival Director Lingga Galih Permadi explained that the concept is child and family-friendly, featuring acting classes, creative classes, and educational tourism activities like apple orchard exploration.
BIKFF carries the theme 'Nature, Nurture, Future,' emphasizing the environment, nurturing, and children's future. Batu City was chosen as the location due to its ideal environment for children's growth and its status as a Child-Friendly City. The Batu City Government targets this festival to become a regular annual agenda to increase interest in children's films and support the 'Batu Artpreneur' vision by strengthening tourism and the creative economy.
