Bakorwil Malang Pushes for Green Economy and Blue Economy Strengthening in South Malang
Head of the Regional Coordination Agency (Bakorwil) III Malang, Asep Kusdinar, stressed the importance of cross-regional cooperation to drive economic equalization in East Java, especially the southern region. BPS data shows the northern region's economic contribution is around 52 percent, while the south is still in the 25 percent range, indicating an imbalance that needs to be addressed.
The East Java Provincial Government is promoting coastal area development through green economy and blue economy concepts. With the Special Management Forest Area (KHDPK) policy, around 500 thousand hectares out of a total 1.1 million hectares of forest area can be managed by communities in groups, while still paying attention to environmental sustainability rules.
Asep highlighted the huge potential of South Malang, which is already connected to other coastal areas, but there are still connectivity challenges like at Modangan Beach between Malang and Blitar regencies. The route change of the 660-kilometer southern crossroad has an impact on the Detail Engineering Design (DED) and section lengths, so infrastructure development is delayed.
Nonetheless, he's optimistic that coastal area development will boost local economic growth, including MSMEs and tourism. Currently there are 18 tourist destinations in South Malang and new potential in South Blitar. Optimizing area management, business certainty, and strengthening institutions are seen as key to improving welfare and reducing poverty.
