Assalamu Alaikum - Heavy Strikes in Gaza Leave Many Dead, Civilians Suffering
Assalamu Alaikum. I’m sharing this with a heavy heart. Gaza’s civil defence told news agencies that overnight Israeli strikes killed at least 50 people, including 22 children, and wounded around 200. They described the situation as catastrophic and said tents for displaced families, homes, and areas near a hospital were hit.
The strikes came after Israel said it was responding to an attack on its troops in Gaza. Hamas has denied involvement in the reported Rafah shooting and said it remains committed to the US-brokered truce. Israel also announced that a 37-year-old soldier, Yona Efraim Feldbaum, was killed during fighting in southern Gaza.
US officials have said the ceasefire is still holding despite these skirmishes, while others defended Israel’s right to respond. Hospitals in Gaza reported strikes close to Al-Shifa and bodies arriving at Al-Awda Hospital, including children from Nuseirat refugee camp.
There’s also tension over the remains of hostages from the October 7 attack. Hamas says locating bodies in the ruins takes time; Israel accuses Hamas of delaying or staging returns. Families on both sides are anguished, and the dispute has threatened the truce. Hamas has returned all 20 living hostages as agreed but discussions over the remaining bodies continue.
On the ground, many residents fear the war could resume. A local man said people just want to rest and live in peace, but they’re worried renewed escalation is possible.
