Assalamu alaikum - Families Flee Al Fasher as Violence Escalates
Assalamu alaikum - Over 3,200 families have left Al Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, and moved toward the nearby town of Tawila after attacks by the Rapid Support Forces, a local coordination group reported. That amounts to roughly 16,200 people who are now displaced and in urgent need of help.
The General Coordination for Displaced Persons and Refugees said these families need food, medicine, clean water, sanitation, shelter supplies, and psychological support. It warned that conditions are getting worse as basic needs increase.
This displacement came after the RSF took control of Al Fasher on October 26, with local and international groups reporting massacres of civilians. Medical teams have observed a worrying rise in malnutrition among those who fled Al Fasher.
The International Organization for Migration says more than 81,000 people have left Al Fasher and nearby areas since October 26.
There have also been reports of RSF drone attacks. The Sudanese army said it intercepted a drone headed for the important southern city of El Obeid, which lies on a major supply route between Khartoum and Darfur.
Since April 15, 2023, fighting between the Sudanese army and the RSF has continued despite regional and international attempts to mediate. The conflict has killed thousands and forced millions from their homes.
May Allah protect the innocent, grant relief to the displaced, and guide those who can help to provide urgent assistance. Please keep the people of Sudan in your duas.
