As the 2026 Halal Mandate Approaches, Tel-U Surabaya Students Assist MSMEs with Certification
Telkom University (Tel-U) Surabaya Campus, through its Community Service (Abdimas) program, is helping the MSME UD Kauman Jaya-a tempeh and soy milk producer in Tenggilis Mejoyo, Surabaya-prepare for halal certification. This effort supports the policy that requires all food and beverage products to be halal-certified by no later than October 18, 2026.
The team, led by Dr. Benazir Imam Arif Muttaqin along with Industrial Engineering lecturers and students, assists the halal certification application process through the self-declare SEHATI scheme. The assistance includes registering a SIHALAL account, identifying critical halal points, and drafting SOPs in line with the Halal Product Assurance System (SJPH).
Beyond legality, the team also helped refine the packaging design for the K-Soya brand soy milk by adding a flavor variant checklist. UD Kauman Jaya's owner, Moch Fauzi, said he really benefited and now understands the halal certification process better.
Going forward, the mentoring will continue until the halal certificate is issued. Tel-U Surabaya hopes this collaboration supports a sustainable halal ecosystem and economic self-reliance for the people of East Java.
