APKI: Corruption of Disaster Funds Is a Betrayal of Humanitarian Trust
The Indonesian Development and Humanitarian Alliance (APKI) expressed concern over the KPK's sting operation on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, regarding alleged corruption of ready-to-use disaster funds at BNPB. APKI urges a thorough investigation and a revamp of disaster fund management.
APKI Convener M. Ali Yusuf called the corruption of disaster funds a betrayal of humanitarian trust. Rahmawati Husein stressed the importance of maintaining confidence in BNPB and strengthening institutional accountability. Puji Pujiono highlighted structural issues and organizational culture that could trigger repeated irregularities.
Bambang Suherman from the Indonesian Philanthropy Association emphasized that trust is the main asset, so every rupiah must be transparent and accountable. Romi Ardiansyah from HFI stressed that integrity in resource management must favor affected communities.
The KPK named five suspects, including Gabriel Purwaka Sigit (BNPB Subdivision Head/PPK), Bima Setyawan (younger brother of the BNPB Head), Richard Erlangga (expert staff to the BNPB Head), and two private parties. Humanitarian activists stressed accountability, transparency, and the public's right to oversee aid.
