Anak Krakatau Volcanic Ash Disrupts Flights, 1,558 Flights Delayed

Around 1,558 flights got delayed because of volcanic ash spreading from Mount Anak Krakatau, affecting roughly 170,000 passengers. Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi extended the temporary closure of eight impacted airports until Sunday (6/9/2026) at 24:00 WIB. This call was made based on tracking volcanic ash movement and wind conditions from BMKG. At Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, there were 963 flights disrupted, including 453 arrivals and 510 departures. The eight airports temporarily shut down are Soekarno-Hatta, Halim Perdanakusuma, Radin Inten II, Husein Sastranegara, Budiarto, Pondok Cabe, Taufik Kiemas, and Atung Bungsu. The Minister emphasized that airlines must fulfill affected passengers' rights according to the rules, like giving info on flight status changes.
