Aceh Builds Halal Tourism Ecosystem, Thousands of Businesses Strengthened
The Culture and Tourism Office of Aceh keeps pushing halal tourism development by coaching businesses, boosting halal certification, and promoting Muslim-friendly travel. "We're always working to promote Muslim-friendly tourism in Aceh through seminars or speakers at events, whether local, regional, national, or international," said Ismail, Head of Tourism Resource Development and Creative Economy at the Aceh Culture and Tourism Office, in Banda Aceh on Wednesday (June 10, 2026).
Strengthening the halal tourism ecosystem means prioritizing hotels and food vendors with halal certification in every activity run by the office, as a commitment to providing safe, comfortable, and standard-compliant services. This step also pushes business owners to improve product quality and compete in a wider market. According to data from Aceh's MPU and BPJPH in 2025, 2,335 businesses have obtained halal certification, including 1,071 cafés, 220 restaurants, and 1,044 eateries.
Coaching for culinary businesses also includes educating them on the importance of halal certification, with speakers from LPPOM MPU Aceh. This halal tourism development is Aceh’s strategy to solidify its position as a Muslim-friendly destination, highlighting cultural values, tourist comfort, and service guarantees that follow halal principles.
