89 Villages in Lamongan Hit by Drought, Local Government Distributes 25,000 Liters of Clean Water
A total of 89 villages in Lamongan Regency, East Java, have been affected by drought due to the dry season. The Lamongan Regency Government, through its Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), has started distributing clean water aid to meet residents' needs. The first distribution took place in Walangkopo Hamlet, Kedungkumpul Village, Sarirejo District, on Tuesday (7/28), with a total of 25,000 liters of clean water.
Based on BPBD's mapping, there are 15 sub-districts, 89 villages, and 168 hamlets that are potentially drought-stricken. As many as 45 villages are experiencing water scarcity and 44 villages are in critical condition. Lamongan Regent Yuhronur Efendi stated that this clean water distribution is the local government's quick response, while for a long-term solution, reservoir revitalization and water infrastructure development will be carried out.
In the initial stage, BPBD sent five clean water tanks with a capacity of 5,000 liters each. Residents also received tarpaulins and jerry cans. The aid will be ongoing as needed, and residents can submit requests through the village or sub-district government. In addition, the revitalization of a 1.8-hectare reservoir in Kedungkumpul Village is planned to increase water storage capacity.
The Lamongan Regency Government is also expanding the clean water network through the development of the Mojolagres Water Supply System (SPAM), which has reached Kembangbahu District and will be extended to Sarirejo. Residents have welcomed this aid positively because of water limitations and the declining quality of water sources during the dry season.
