7 Prayers for Patience in Facing Trials: Arabic, Latin, and Their Meanings
As Muslims, we're encouraged to always pray to Allah SWT in every situation, including when we're facing trials. Here are seven prayers you can say to ask for patience and peace of mind.
1. A prayer for patience in trials: “Allahumma inni as'aluka sabran jamiilan wa qalban muthma'innan wa yaqiinan shaadiqan” (Oh Allah, I ask You for beautiful patience, a calm heart, and true faith).
2. A prayer for patience from Surah Al-Baqarah verse 250: “Rabbanaaa afrigh ‘alainaa sabranw wa sabbit aqdaamanaa wansurnaa ‘alal qawmil kaafireen” (Our Lord, pour patience upon us, make our steps firm, and help us against the disbelieving people).
3. Prophet Musa's prayer for relief from Surah Taha verses 25-28: “Rabbisyrahli shadri wayassyirli amrl wahlul uqdatam mil-lisani yafqahu qauli” (My Lord, expand my chest, ease my task for me, and untie the knot from my tongue).
4. Prophet Musa's prayer for safety from Surah Al-Qasas verse 21: “Rabbi najjinee minal qawmiz zaalimeen” (My Lord, save me from the wrongdoing people).
5. Prophet Ayyub's prayer when afflicted with illness from Surah Al-Anbiya verse 83: “Rabbahooo annee massaniyad durru wa Anta arhamur raahimeen” (My Lord, indeed adversity has touched me, and You are the Most Merciful of the merciful).
6. A prayer when struck by disaster: “Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. Allahumma ajirni fi musibati wa akhlif li khairan minha” (Indeed we belong to Allah and to Him we shall return. Oh Allah, reward me in my affliction and replace it with something better).
7. A prayer for a calm heart: “A’udzu bi kalimatillahit tammati min ghadhabihi wa iqabihi, wa syarri ibadihi, wa min hamazatis syayathini wa an yahdhurun” (I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from His wrath, His punishment, the evil of His servants, and from the whisperings of devils and that they should come near).
