584 Extremist Jewish Settlers Storm Al-Aqsa, Status Quo of the Holy Mosque Increasingly Threatened
As many as 584 extremist Jewish settlers stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem on Thursday (13/8/2026), under the protection of Zionist Israeli police. The action shows how openly Jewish religious provocations are taking place inside the compound, which is governed by historical and legal status quo.
"At least 584 settlers stormed the Al Aqsa Mosque compound in the morning through the Moroccan Gate on the western side under police protection," said an official from the Islamic Waqf Department in Jerusalem, quoted from Middle East Monitor, Friday (14/8/2026). The number was expected to increase after noon prayers, with witnesses reporting Talmudic rituals, prayers, and dancing inside the compound.
The Al-Aqsa status quo places the compound as an exclusive place of worship for Muslims, managed by the Jerusalem Islamic Waqf under Jordan's Ministry of Waqf. The increase in illegal Israeli Jewish settler activity, including rituals and political presence, is seen as an attempt to create new facts on the ground and change the historical character of the 144-dunam compound.
Since 2003, Zionist Israel has unilaterally allowed settlers to enter the compound, which now happens almost daily. Eight Muslim countries, including Indonesia, together condemned the violation of the status quo and warned of systematic actions to change the character of East Jerusalem. The Arab League on August 13 also condemned the intrusion and warned of attempts to alter the historical and legal status of the site.
