129 Passengers of KM Virgo Transport 8 Still Missing, Victims' Families Hold Out at Tanjung Perak Port
A bunch of families of passengers from the KM Virgo Transport 8 that sank in the Java Sea are sticking it out at Tanjung Perak Port in Surabaya, hoping for some fresh updates. As of Monday (9/14/2026), 129 people are still being searched for.
Ahmad Faruk, a guy from Malang, is waiting for news about his younger brother, Ali Imron, who was one of the passengers. He said his brother had actually posted about his trip heading to Banjarmasin before the family got word from the company that the ship had sunk.
The medical team from the East Java Police's Medical and Health Division (Dokkes) has also set up a post at the port to help out the affected families. The KM Virgo Transport 8 left Tanjung Perak on Saturday (9/12/2026) at 10 a.m. local time with 243 passengers and dozens of vehicles on board.
Out of all the passengers, 114 were rescued alive, six died, and 129 are still unaccounted for. The families are just hoping the search keeps going and actually brings some results.
