“1,000 Good News for Indonesia” Program Visits Islamic Boarding School in Jember, Students Enthusiastic about Learning Journalism
Dozens of students from Hujjatul Islam Islamic Boarding School in Patemon Village, Pakusari District, Jember Regency, enthusiastically took part in the socialization of the “1,000 Good News for Indonesia” News Writing Movement and Competition held by online media KabarBaik.co on Saturday (8/8) afternoon. The activity was a journalism training that received positive appreciation from the boarding school, considered important to equip the younger generation in wisely digesting information in the digital era.
The students were given the basics of journalism, such as news writing according to the 5W+1H rule, understanding social media, and tips to distinguish facts from hoaxes. The administrative staff of Hujjatul Islam Boarding School, Fajar Siddiq, said the training was very beneficial so that students wouldn’t be technologically illiterate and could filter the flood of information.
“In this day and age, a lot of information is still confusing and unclear in its facts. With this training, God willing, the kids can sort out which information really happens in society and which is still confusing,” said Fajar. Besides the socialization, the activity was coupled with a public news writing competition with a total prize of Rp 12 million, openly welcomed by the boarding school to channel the students’ interests and talents in writing.
